Electrical Motor Installation Tips

Installing and repairing electrical equipment like motor requires complete knowledge about the technical procedure. One wrong installation step can make it vibrating, fails the bearings and even engine can be stuck.

Therefore, it is commonly seen that people tend to hire experts like boos electrical group to perform the proper electric motor installation procedure. Some of the key rules for installation of electric motors are as follows:

Rule To Know Before Installing The Engine

Before installing the engine for electrical installation, it is necessary to carry out test (preventive) work. Otherwise, any malfunctions discovered in the future, then all work done will be in vain.

When installing the motor one must consider the following key areas:

  • Remove dust and dirt from the electric motor, carefully inspect accessible internal parts and check for irrelevant objects in it;
  • Blow the electric motor with dry compressed air at a pressure not exceeding 2 kg / cm2. When blowing an electric motor of an open design, in order to save winding insulation from damage, keep in mind hoses with metal tips should not be used. If there is no compressed air, you can use any even an automobile compressor;
  • Rotate the rotor of the electric motor manually to make sure that it rotates freely and that there is no jamming and knocking.

Electrical inspection

Electrics need to check the compliance parameters. So, it is necessary to check:
  • Measure the insulation resistance of the megger with a voltage of 500 V. An electric motor with a winding insulation resistance below 0.5 MΩ must be dried. The minimum insulation resistance of the stator winding after drying at 60 ° C should be at least 0.5 MΩ;
  • Check if the mains voltage corresponds to the voltage indicated on the rating plate of the electric motor;
  • Check the system attached to the motor, the correctness of future connections of all terminals help in building an optimal motor connection to the network.
Installation of The Electric Motor on The Frame

Now, its a time to install the electric motor on the frame. Most often, this is how the electric motors of pumping plants and machinery are installed.
  • Place the coupling half on the motor shaft, while correcting select the key under the keyway.
  • Install the engine on the frame, aligning the motor shaft with the equipment shaft in height and axially.
  • Fasten the installed engine to the frame with bolts and nuts of the required size.
  • Check all mechanical fastenings of the electric motor (bolts, mounting bearing shields, foundation bolts, etc.) and, if necessary, tighten them.
Installing The Motor on The Frame With A Belt Drive

There is also a belt drive (transmission) required for installation. Most often, this method of mounting an electric motor is used in work with fans and some machine tools.
  • Put the pulley on the motor shaft, while correctly selecting the key under the keyway.
  • With a belt drive, the electric motor is mounted on a sledge;
  • The electric motor should be mounted on the slide so that the axes of the shafts of the electric motor and the set in motion mechanism are horizontal and parallel to each other;
  • The middle of one pulley should be against the middle of the other pulley,
  • It must be possible to adjust the balance of the belt as it is drawn out, especially during the first operation time;
  • The sledge must be level parallel to each other and aligned both in the longitudinal and transverse directions;
  • The supporting surface under the sledge must be solid;
  • For the belt balance, bolts must be provided to screw into the mobile stops.
Instead of Conclusion

  • Check out the grounding of the motor base frame. The ground wire is clamped under the head of the bolt that secures the motor to the sledge or foundation frame. This contact point of the ground wire with the frame must be cleaned of paint, rust or another insulating coating;
  • Connect wires to the electric motor from the switching device ( starter, controller, electric machine ). After connecting the wires to the engine, check the reliability of contacts leads of the electric motor with joining wires;
  • Once again, check the correctness of the pairing (alignment) of the shafts of the electric motor and drive;
  • Manually scroll the motor shaft again;
  • Applying voltage to the engine.
